Rabi Crops Sowing Exceeds 661 Lakh Hectares

The sowing of Rabi crops has surpassed 661 lakh hectares, which is higher than last year's 651.42 lakh hectares and the 10-year average of 635.30 lakh hectares. However, the sowing of oilseed crops has been weaker compared to last year. Mustard sowing has decreased from 91.83 lakh hectares to 89.3 lakh hectares. Groundnut sowing stands at 3.65 lakh hectares, linseed at 2.26 lakh hectares, sesame at 0.42 lakh hectares, sunflower at 0.74 lakh hectares, and safflower at 0.72 lakh hectares. The total area for Rabi pulses has increased from 137.8 lakh hectares to 140.9 lakh hectares. Chickpea sowing has risen from 95.87 lakh hectares to 98.55 lakh hectares. Pea sowing has slightly increased to 7.94 lakh hectares, horse gram to 2 lakh hectares, black gram to 6.12 lakh hectares, and green gram to 1.4 lakh hectares. Lentil sowing remains the same as last year at 17.43 lakh hectares. Wheat sowing has increased from 318.33 lakh hectares to 324.88 lakh hectares. In coarse cereals, maize sowing has increased from 21.75 lakh hectares to 23.67 lakh hectares. Barley sowing has risen by 17 thousand hectares to 6.2 lakh hectares, while sorghum sowing has decreased from 27.36 lakh hectares to 24.35 lakh hectares. Paddy sowing has increased by 2 lakh hectares to 42.54 lakh hectares.
