Heavy Showers Lash Region as Monsoon Advances

Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of Chhattisgarh & Odisha, remaining parts of Northeastern states and some parts of West Bengal & Sikkim during next 2 days. The well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast, has intensified into a depression. It is currently centered over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts, approximately 100 km south-southeast of Sagar Island, 130 km southeast of Digha, 190 km east-northeast of Paradip, and 210 km west-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh). The system is likely to move northward, strengthen further into a deep depression, and cross the West Bengal–Bangladesh coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara (Bangladesh) by this afternoon. Southern Peninsular India is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next three days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. Western India is set to experience light to moderate rainfall, with heavy spells accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Goa for the next 3-4 days. Meanwhile, similar weather conditions over Maharashtra and Gujarat State are expected to subside by the end of today. Northeast India is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next seven days, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. East and Central India are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next 2-3 days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph across Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. Additionally, thundersqualls with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, are likely over East Madhya Pradesh today and Bihar tomorrow. Northwest India is expected to see light to moderate rainfall over the next 3-4 days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Additionally, thundersqualls may occur during this period, and isolated places in West Rajasthan are likely to experience dust storms until tomorrow.
