Export Demand Lifts Basmati Rice Market; Prices Up ₹1200-₹1300/quintal
The supply of basmati paddy has been exhausted across all major producing states, with only existing stock now being traded in the market. At the same time, demand for processed rice in rice mills, especially for exports, has picked up significantly. Since last month, after a period of sluggishness, buying activity has increased across the board. As a result, prices have surged by ₹1200- ₹1300 per quintal. The price of 1509 Sella has risen to ₹6400, while the 1718 variety is trading at ₹6800- ₹6900 per quintal. The 1509 Steam variety is now at ₹7300, and 1401 Steam is at ₹7400- ₹7600 per quintal. Further price rise is likely, as Indian rice remains the cheapest in the international market, attracting consistent demand from exporters.
