Southwest Monsoon Gains Momentum, Expands from Maharashtra to Telangana; Extremely Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for Kerala and Karnataka
The southwest monsoon has entered parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana today. Extending across the west-central and east-central regions of the Arabian Sea, its northern boundary now stretches through Harnai, Solapur, Kalaburagi, Nandyal, Chennai, Kailashahar, Lamding, and North Lakhimpur. Very heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala and Karnataka on 8th and 9th June. Continuous rainfall, along with occasional thunderstorms, is likely next week in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana. In Konkan and Goa, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected from 8th to 10th June. In northern India, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Rajasthan may experience scattered rainfall between 8th and 14th June. On 11th and 12th June, strong winds (40�60 km/h), thunderstorms, and lightning strikes are possible due to the influence of a western disturbance. In central India, scattered rainfall is expected in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha from 8th to 14th June. On 11th and 12th June, Chhattisgarh may experience severe storms with wind speeds of 50�70 km/h. Continuous rainfall will also occur in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh. In the plains of West Bengal, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected on 8�10 and 13�14 June. Authorities have advised people to avoid travel during heavy rains and storms. There is a risk of flooding in rivers and landslides in hilly areas. Residents in areas prone to hail and lightning are warned to stay in safe locations.
