Pulses Market Report
Chana The average arrival of desi chickpeas in the mandis of Rajasthan is about 8-9 trucks per day, which is 50% less compared to the previous year. Despite this, Australian chickpeas have started selling at lower prices in the November-December shipments. With both domestic and foreign chickpeas expected to arrive in January and February, the bullish sentiment has faded. Therefore, it is advisable to sell the stock whenever possible. Currently, desi chickpeas are being sold at ₹6950 per quintal in Lawrence Road, although the demand from dal mills is weak. Australian stocks have been in storage for a month. Masoor The prices of lentils from Canada have started to decrease in the current week, leading to a slight drop in prices for shipments arriving at Mundra Port. In MP, stockists are buying, and as a result, the price of desi masoor in Delhi has reached ₹6620-6630 per quintal. Canadian lentils are now priced at ₹6100-6120 per quintal. Around 87% of the stock in raw mandis has been sold. Additionally, lentil stocks from farmers are reaching distribution mandis. With Canadian prices increasing, there is no risk in trade here. Urad The government increased the minimum support price (MSP) of urad by ₹450 to ₹7400 per quintal three months ago. However, the prices of urad have been continuously falling for the past fortnight, with current prices stabilizing at the lower range. Meanwhile, arrivals from Maharashtra and MP are low. With demand picking up at lower prices, urad prices in Chennai have been steady, but there is no scope for a significant price increase. The prices for SQ urad have dropped to ₹94 per kg, and for FAQ urad, they have fallen to ₹83 per kg. The new crop is selling at cheaper prices, leading to further drops in FAQ prices. The market for urad will likely remain stagnant for a few days. Moong The government increased the MSP of moong by ₹124 to ₹8682 per quintal three months ago. Some mandis in Madhya Pradesh are reporting purchases, but the arrival in UP is low, with prices ranging between ₹5500-6500 per quintal. This is keeping the market from picking up, and moong prices are currently fluctuating between ₹7000-7300 per quintal. Therefore, it is advisable to trade moong at current prices. Tur To ensure fair prices for farmers, the government raised the MSP of tur by ₹550 to ₹7550 per quintal. With timely rainfall in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh, the tur crop has been sown well. However, the pressure from the new crop is slowly building up in the mandis, and forward deals are being concluded at lower prices. This has led to a bearish sentiment for tur, and prices are expected to fall further by ₹10 per kg in the coming days. Currently, lemon tur is being sold at ₹97 per kg, and the sale of new stock is increasing pressure on prices. Matar This year's pea production in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh has been good. Additionally, the government has imported a large quantity of peas and removed the import duty, leading to increased forward transactions. As a result, the bullish sentiment has ended, but there is no possibility of a price drop at the current levels. Currently, white peas are being sold at ₹3300-3350 per quintal, and cleaned peas are priced at ₹3800-3900 per quintal. There is no chance of a price decrease, but it is advisable to sell the stock whenever possible.
