Weather News: Cold Wave Expected in Several States
A cold wave is expected to impact Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Telangana. A cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a low-pressure area on Sunday. This system is likely to intensify and move west-northwestwards, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across South India starting Tuesday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may lash Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Heavy rainfall is also likely in Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands can expect fairly widespread rain. Scattered showers are predicted for Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Isolated rain is also possible in South Interior Karnataka and Kerala. A fresh western disturbance will bring light to moderate rain or snow across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, and neighboring regions early this week. Additionally, dense fog is expected to blanket northern mountainous areas and northern plains for several days, potentially impacting visibility and travel. Isolated rain is also possible in Uttarakhand. Maximum temperatures are projected to remain near or below normal across most parts of India during this period, except for Northeast India and parts of South India, where above-normal daytime highs are anticipated. Nighttime temperatures in North, Central, and West India are forecast to stay below or well below normal, with the NCR region experiencing single-digit lows throughout the week. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected to persist across many parts of northern and central India from Monday, keeping the region in the grip of winter's chill for several days.
