Cold Wave Set to Grip Punjab, Himachal, and Jammu & Kashmir
A fresh Western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from today. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady over the Western Himalayan region for the next two days, followed by a gradual decrease of 2-3°C over the subsequent three days. In the plains of Northwest India, no significant change in minimum temperatures is anticipated over the next 4-5 days. Meanwhile, a rise of 3-5°C in minimum temperatures is likely across Central and West India over the next 4-5 days, and a rise of 2-3°C is expected in East India over the next three days, with no significant change thereafter. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions very likely to prevail in some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and East Rajasthan during next 2-3 days. Dense fog is very likely to prevail during the late-night and early-morning hours in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh today, and in Assam, Meghalaya, and East Rajasthan over the next 2-3 days. The associated induced cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan. The low pressure area lies over southwest Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto middle tropospheric levels. It is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast during next 2 days. Isolated light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha during next 2-3 days.
