Maize Market Weakens as New Crop Arrives in Bihar; Further Price Drop Expected
The arrival of the new maize crop in Bihar has picked up pace, especially in regions like Khagaria, Begusarai, Gulabbagh, Darbhanga, Semapur, and Mansi. Over the past 2–3 days, heavy arrivals have increased pressure on the market, leading to a downward trend in prices. Currently, maize prices in Bihar mandis are ranging between ₹2250 to ₹2275 per quintal, depending on moisture content, while premium-quality lots are fetching up to ₹2300 per quintal. In Haryana and Punjab, where maize from Bihar is being transported, prices have also dropped slightly to ₹2525–₹2550 per quintal, again based on moisture levels. Meanwhile, maize from Madhya Pradesh is mostly being diverted to ethanol companies, so it hasn’t had much impact on local markets there. Despite the good quality of the crop, the increasing arrivals in Bihar are putting downward pressure on prices. Analysts expect the price to drop further in Bihar's mandis, potentially reaching ₹2100–₹2150 per quintal in the coming days. Given the current market trend, traders and buyers are advised to hold off on large-scale purchases for now. Buying at higher prices may not be favorable at this point. If arrivals continue at this pace, the maize market may soften further in the near future.
