Wheat Market News

Wheat Prices Firm in Delhi Market; ₹2850 Level Possible Soon The wheat market in Delhi showed a strong upward trend over the past week. The new wheat opened at ₹2730 - ₹2735 per quintal on Monday and closed at ₹2765 per quintal on Saturday. This marks a gain of ₹30 per quintal during the week due to consistent demand. If ₹2780 Holds, ₹2850 May Be the Next Target Market analysts suggest that if Delhi wheat prices sustain above ₹2780 for even a day, the market could soon see levels of ₹2850. Historically, the market had halted around ₹2775 during previous rallies. However, this time, the momentum appears stronger and less likely to pause. Significant Drop in Arrivals Wheat arrivals in Delhi have been consistently declining. Compared to 228 tons during the same week last year, this years arrivals are down to just 183 tons. Last weeks arrivals were 250 tons, whereas this week they dropped by 67 tons highlighting tightening supply. Government Sale Plans Unclear Under the OMSS(D) scheme, the government has announced a base price of ₹2550 per quintal for wheat to be sold via tender, excluding transport costs. However, the dates and quantity for the actual sale are yet to be confirmed. Regional Market Highlights: Punjab & Jammu: Prices remained mostly stable throughout the week. Uttar Pradesh: Most mandis and mills reported strong prices. In the Gorakhpur region, prices of wheat, flour (maida), and semolina (suji) surged by over ₹50 per quintal. Markets in Hardoi, Gonda, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, and Bareilly also showed up to ₹50 gains. The reopening of schools and colleges in July has boosted flour and maida consumption. South India: Medium to large-scale millers have raised their bid prices due to strong demand. Most markets and mills recorded an average increase of ₹30 per quintal. Rajasthan: Wheat prices remained strong in major markets including Kota, Baran, Udaipur, and Jaipur. In Jodhpur, both wheat and flour prices rose by over ₹30 per quintal. With steady demand and falling arrivals, wheat prices are showing upward momentum across the country. If Delhi wheat prices close above ₹2780, a sustained rally toward ₹2850 per quintal appears likely in the near term.
