Heavy Rainfall Batters Coastal Karnataka and Kerala

The well-marked low pressure system over south coastal Odisha and nearby areas has gradually moved west-northwestward and weakened into a regular low pressure area, now positioned over South Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. Its associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestward with height. This system is expected to continue moving west-northwestward across Chhattisgarh over the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across Northwest India, with heavy spells likely in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Haryana. Rainfall activity will begin in Punjab and West Rajasthan from tomorrow. Uttar Pradesh is likely to see rain starting three days from now, which may continue for two days. The monsoon trough currently extends across several regions, passing through Bikaner, Guna, and Jabalpur, then through the center of the well-marked low-pressure area over south Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. From there, it continues east-southeastward toward the east-central Bay of Bengal. This alignment supports ongoing rainfall activity along its path. East and Central India are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next four days, with chances of heavy spells accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several areas. Rainfall activity in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is expected to ease after two days. In Bihar and Jharkhand, similar weather conditions may begin after two days and continue for another two days. Over the next five days, many parts of Northeast India are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, along with occasional thunderstorms and lightning. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh is expected to see a continued spell of heavy rain for the next two days. South Peninsular India is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next 2–3 days, with chances of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. The ongoing heavy rain in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu is likely to ease by tomorrow. However, coastal Karnataka may continue to experience heavy showers for the next three days.
