Western Disturbance Triggers Widespread Rainfall and Snowfall Across North India

A fresh western disturbance that entered the region yesterday evening has already led to scattered light to moderate rainfall across parts of Punjab and northern Rajasthan. As the system strengthens, more cloud development is expected over North Rajasthan and parts of Pakistan, which will soon influence interior regions of North India. Over the next 24 hours, this weather system is likely to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Some areas may witness heavy rainfall, accompanied by hailstorms in isolated pockets. Jammu and Kashmir is expected to receive heavy rainfall, with a few areas potentially seeing very heavy precipitation. The upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh are likely to witness the season’s first heavy snowfall, marking the beginning of winter-like conditions in the western Himalayan region. Over the next 4–5 days, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with occasional heavy showers. Meanwhile, similar conditions are expected to develop in Manipur and Mizoram starting in two days and continuing through the same period. Light to moderate rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu during the next three days, while South Interior Karnataka and Kerala are likely to experience similar conditions starting two days from now. Additionally, between 6th and 9th October, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are forecast across Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
