Wheat Sowing Area Likely to Rise in Madhya Pradesh After Bonus Announcement

Madhya Pradesh is expected to see a rise in wheat sowing during the upcoming Rabi season following the state government’s announcement of an additional ₹115 per quintal bonus on top of the Central MSP of ₹2,585, ensuring farmers receive ₹2,700 per quintal. The state, which ranks second in the country after Uttar Pradesh in wheat production, has also become the second-largest contributor to the Central Pool after Punjab. Favorable monsoon rainfall has ensured good water availability and adequate soil moisture, creating ideal conditions for increased sowing. Early declaration of the bonus has boosted farmer confidence, likely leading to higher acreage and production this season. During the 2025 Rabi marketing season, over 75 lakh tonnes of wheat were procured in Madhya Pradesh. With the new incentive, procurement in the 2026 season is projected to exceed 80 lakh tonnes.
