Projected Domestic Pulse Production for 2024-25 Season

The Ministry of Agriculture has released its fourth and final estimate for the 2024-25 season, forecasting a total domestic production of pulses at 25.683 million tonnes. This marks an increase over the previous season’s output of 24.246 million tonnes (2023-24), but is lower than the 26.058 million tonnes produced in the 2022-23 season, and significantly less than the 27.302 million tonnes of the 2021-22 season. Key Observations from the Report: Tur (Pigeon Pea): Production is projected to rise from 3.417 million tonnes in 2023-24 to 3.624 million tonnes in 2024-25. Chickpeas (Gram): A slight improvement is expected, with production increasing from 11.039 million tonnes to 11.114 million tonnes. Moong (Green Gram): A notable surge is anticipated, with production expected to jump from 3.103 million tonnes to 4.244 million tonnes. However, there are declines forecast for certain pulses: Urad (Black Gram): Production is projected to fall from 2.319 million tonnes to 2.242 million tonnes. Lentils (Masoor): A decrease in production is expected, from 1.791 million tonnes to 1.654 million tonnes.
