Unstable weather across the country, strong winds and rainfall likely in several regions

On April 20, thunderstorms with moderate to intense lightning are likely over parts of South, Central, East, and Northwest India. Strong winds of 50–70 km/h are expected particularly over Eastern and Northeastern India, while other regions may experience winds of 30–50 km/h. Hailstorm activity is also likely over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. During the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded over Northeast India, with Assam receiving 12–20 cm and Nagaland 7–11 cm of rain. Hailstorms were reported at isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana. Strong winds of 50–80 km/h occurred over regions including Marathwada, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and Meghalaya, while other parts of the country experienced winds of 30–50 km/h. Maximum temperatures ranged between 36°C and 40°C across several regions including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Akola and Wardha in Maharashtra recorded the highest temperature of 45°C. Many areas, especially in North and Central India, observed temperatures 3°C to 5°C above normal, while regions like जम्मू-कश्मीर and West Bengal recorded slightly below-normal temperatures. Minimum (night) temperatures ranged between 13°C and 19°C in hilly and Northeastern regions, while plains recorded 20°C to 26°C. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was 16.5°C at Gurdaspur (Punjab). Several states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh recorded night temperatures 3°C to 5°C above normal. Multiple weather systems are currently influencing the country’s weather. A western disturbance is active over the Jammu & Kashmir region. Cyclonic circulations and trough lines are present over Southwest Rajasthan, Northeast Assam, and from Telangana to Comorin region. Another western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from April 23, which may further change weather conditions. Weather activity will remain active over Northeast India in the coming days. Light to moderate rainfall with lightning is expected over Arunachal Pradesh during April 20–22, and over Assam & Meghalaya during April 20–24. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience thunderstorms and rainfall between April 20–23, with chances of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
