The Monsoon Trough is currently positioned close to its normal location across the country. At the same time, several cyclonic circulations are active over Punjab, southern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar, southwest Rajasthan, the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal Andhra Pradesh, as well as central Assam. A trough extends from the cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar to Tripura, while another trough stretches from the west-central Bay of Bengal to the northeast Arabian Sea. Under the influence of these weather systems, rainfall activity is expected to remain active over central, eastern and northeastern parts of India during the coming days. Over Central India, widespread rainfall is likely across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha between 20 and 26 July. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over western Madhya Pradesh from 22 to 24 July, while eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are also likely to receive intense spells of rain during this period. Vidarbha may witness heavy showers at isolated places. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30�50 km/h are also expected over several areas. Across Eastern India, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim are likely to experience widespread rainfall over the next few days. On 20 July, Bihar may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are also likely over Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to witness intermittent rainfall throughout 20�26 July, with a few places likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds. Residents in areas under heavy rainfall warnings are advised to remain alert, as waterlogging and localized flooding may occur. During thunderstorms, avoid open areas, stay away from trees and electric poles, and follow the latest advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and local authorities.
