Intensity of Maha fizzles a bit, threat to Gujarat continues
Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Maha' lay centered over east central & adjoining northeast Arabian Sea about 450 km west-southwest of Porbandar (Gujarat). It is likely to cross Gujarat coast around Diu as a Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 70-80 kmph around noon of 7th November, 2019. The Depression moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 09 kmph, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered over east central & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours. Under present weather condition in Gujarat heavy infestation of jassids & white fly is observed in cotton, if required, spray 5 % seed kernel extract or neem seed oil 50 ml with diafenthiuron 50 %wp@16 gm / 10 lit of water.
Under the influence of cyclone 'Maha' and its likely interaction with westerly trough, Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at a few places over Saurashtra & Kutch and Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat region and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & hail very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir; with lightning at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. In Punjab continue harvesting of rice and picking up of cotton in dry and clear weather. Undertake sowing of wheat. In Himachal Pradesh, after harvesting of kharif crops maize, pulses and rice clean the fields and undertake sowing of mustard, linseed and gobhi sarson, vegetables like onion, radish and turnip.
In Madhya Maharashtra,drain out excess water from crop fields, Continue harvesting of matured cotton, soybean and groundnut during clear weather. Keep harvested produce in safer place. In Marathwada, continue harvesting of matured cotton, soybean and undertake picking of cotton. Squally wind, speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph, likely to commence over northeast Arabian Sea along & off Gujarat coast.
