West Bengal, Odisha brace for heavy rains today

The Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Bulbul' intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centered over westcentral & adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, about 390 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha). It is likely to re-curve northeastwards and cross West Bengal-Bangladesh Coast between Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and Khepupara (Bangladesh), across Sunderban delta during the early hours of 10th.

Under its influence heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Odisha and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. The Well Marked Low Pressure Area over northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining south Gujarat coast persists. Farmers are advised to take adequate care and precautions for harvesting and safe storage of harvested paddy. Wide fluctuation in day and night temperature coupled with high humidity is congenial for attack of Brown Plant Hopper in paddy. To control it spray Pymetrozine 50WG@300g/ha or Dinotefuran 20%SG@200g/ha or Flonicamid 50WG@150g/ha.

Under the influence of Western Disturbance and its interaction with remnant of cyclone'Maha', heavy to very heavy rain/snow at isolated places is very likely over Jammu & Kashmir and heavy rain over Himachal Pradesh; heavy rainfall at isolated places over Punjab, Gujarat region and Saurashtra coasts during next 24 hours. Farmers in Punjab continue harvesting of rice and picking up of cotton in dry and clear weather. Undertake sowing of wheat. In Himachal Pradesh, after harvesting of kharif crops maize, pulses and rice clean the fields and undertake sowing of mustard, linseed and gobhi sarson, vegetables like onion, radish and turnip. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely at isolated places over Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
