Prices of Pusa 1121 basmati paddy in Amritsar fell in a thin trade. Prices of wheat were largely steady in the spot markets. Pusa 1121 basmati paddy prices have fallen by more than 10% over the last one month as output is seen larger this year and export demand is expected to be muted due to persisting payment issues with Iran, the largest buyer of Pusa 1121 basmati rice. India's basmati output this year at 5.7 mln tn, 15% higher on year. Front month paddy basmati contract ended at 3,266 rupees per 100 kg on the ICEX, down 3% from the previous close, reflecting the bearish sentiment in the spot markets.
