Thunderstorm & hail over J&K, heavy rain to continue in Tamil Nadu and adjoining parts

The Western Disturbance and associated cyclonic circulation lies over Iran & neighbourhood between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to affect Western Himalayan region from tonight. Under its influence, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rain/snow likely over Jammu & Kashmir on 21st & 22nd November and over Himachal Pradesh on 22nd November. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & hail also likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and Southern peninsula during next on 21st & 22nd November. In Jammu Division, continue sowing of wheat (late sown) during clear weather. Continue harvesting of Basmati rice (Late transplanted) and store in safe place.

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 20th & 22nd November. Moderate to dense fog very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, south Assam & Meghalaya and Tripura. In Punjab, continue sowing of wheat, complete picking of cotton. It is optimum time to sow root crops like radish, turnip and carrot and transplanting of nursery of tomato, brinjal. Complete sowing of the nursery of onion and sowing of peas. Undertake propping of sugarcane by tying with trash in single cane row. In Haryana, Farmers are advised to complete sowing of early sown wheat varieties i.e. Unnat PBW 343, PBW 1 Zn, PBW 725, PBW 677, HD 3086, WH 1105, HD 2967, PBW 621 during the period.

Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Tamil nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. In Tamil nadu, due to prevailing wet weather from past few days; flower shedding in cotton may take place, to control spray Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) @ 40 ppm (40 mg / liter of water)after current spells of heavy rain. Provide propping in sugarcane and adequate support to the banana to prevent lodging due to wind.
