According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the sowing of maize has come down to 6.78 lakh hectares in the current season, which is less than 7.14 lakh hectares in the same period last year. The sowing of Bajra has increased to 4.74 lakh hectare during this period, while it was sown only in 3.98 lakh hectare till this time last year. Sowing of jowar has been done in 26 thousand hectare and ragi in 14 thousand hectare only in the current summer. Sowing of pulses has increased by 3.77 per cent to 19.81 lakh hectare in the current summer season, as against only 19.09 lakh hectare till this time last year. In the current season, urad has been sown in 3.25 lakh hectare and moong in 16.33 lakh hectare. In the same period of last year, their sowing was done in 3.24 and 15.56 lakh hectare respectively. Other pulses have been sown in 0.23 lakh hectare only, which is less than 0.28 lakh hectare in the same period last year.
