Government procurement of wheat reached 261.83 lakh tonnes till May 25. The pace of wheat procurement remained slow this week. The speed may decrease further in the coming days. Wheat procurement will stop in many states on May 30. Wheat procurement may be limited to 265-278 lakh tonnes in the current season. Recently, the Roller Flour Mill Federation of India surveyed the production of wheat at 1042.4 lakh tonnes. According to USDA, wheat production in India can be 1040 lakh tonnes. After distribution in various schemes, 90 lakh tonnes of wheat stock is likely to be left in the pool, some part of which will be sold under OMSS.
