Tur prices may reach up to 12,000

All efforts of the government seem to be ineffective on tur prices. A stormy rise is now being seen in the price. On Tuesday, imported pigeon peas were traded at Rs. 9600-Rs.9650/q at Chennai Port. New cargo is not available at Mumbai Port. Meanwhile, now Myanmar will also have hardly 25,000 tonnes of pigeon peas, which is in strong hands. It is now being assumed that in July, pigeon peas will reach up to Rs. 12000/q in the local market. There are still 6 months left for domestic produce to reach markets and before August the arrival of pigeon peas from Africa does not seem possible. About 12-15 LMT of pigeon peas will be required for these 6 months. Traders in the local market say that most of the millers do not have stock for more than 5~7 days. There is almost no arrival in the markets. This is the reason why millers are not getting pigeon peas easily. Due to this, the price has gone above Rs.10,000/q in Indore on Tuesday.
