Very Heavy Rains to hit Kerala; Heavy Rainfall Over Himachal, Punjab, Karnataka

Southwest Monsoons withdrawal line continues its path through forbesganj, Malda, Vishakhapatnam, Nalgonda, Raichur, and Vengurla. • A Western Disturbance is causing a cyclonic circulation across the Jammu division and neighbouring Pakistan, and its induced cyclonic circulation is over Punjab. • There are two cyclonic circulations: one over the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and its surroundings, and another over the Lakshadweep area, the Southeast Arabian Sea, and the coastal area of Kerala. • About October 17, a Low Pressure Area is anticipated to form over the Southeast and adjacent East Central Arabian Sea under its influence. It is expected to shift to the west-northwest and get stronger over the next 48 hours. • In next 1-2 days, there is a very good chance of light to moderate rainfall, accompanied with thunderstorm, and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. • Heavy rains, thunderstorms, gusty wind and lightning is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe in next 1-2 days, as well as over the Lakshadweep region and South Interior Karnataka during next 1-2 days. • In next 2-4 days, isolated periods of heavy rainfall mixed with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. • The remaining portions of the nation likely will not see any significant weather over the next five days. Advisory to Farmers: • Farmers are advised to stop irrigating the paddy crop before a fortnight to maintain the optimum grain moisture, facilitate easy harvesting and timely sowing of succeeding crop in the same field. • Farmers are also advised to harvest the mature crop in states like Punjab, Haryana, UP etc., as per the weather forecast and keep the harvested produce at a safer place. • To protect basmati rice from blast, spray 500 gm Indofil Z-78 or 200 ml Amritsar Top 325 SC per acre in 200 litres of water per acre at boot and ear emergence stage. • Rabi sowing of wheat, mustard, rapeseed and chickpea can be carried in this week. • To hasten boll opening in cotton, it is advised to withhold the irrigation to the crop. • Picking should be done after every 8-10 days to avoid loss. Do not keep the picked cotton in wet water channel in the field, as this practice impairs the quality of cotton. • The attack of maize borer can be checked by spraying with 30 ml of Coragen 18.5 SC in 60 litres of water per acre with knapsack sprayer. • It is the time for sowing of late season varieties and transplanting of mid-season varieties of cauliflower. • It is best time for sowing of spinach, fenugreek, coriander, radish, turnip, garlic and early varieties of pea i.e. Matar Ageta7 and AP-3. • Sowing of early varieties of potato can also be done i.e. Kufri Surya, Kufri Pukhraj, Kufri Ashoka and Kufri Chandramukhi.
