Government procurement of paddy in the current Kharif marketing season is close to 270 lakh tonnes
In the current Kharif marketing season 2023-24, procurement of paddy at Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been 269.95 lakh tonnes. Punjab and Haryana have the highest share in the total purchases made so far. The government procurement of paddy from Punjab in the current Kharif has been 178.57 lakh tonnes, while 58.78 lakh tonnes of paddy has been purchased from the mandis of Haryana at support price during this period. During this period, government procurement of 9.05 lakh tonnes of paddy has been done from Chhattisgarh, 5.38 lakh tonnes from Tamil Nadu, 8.07 lakh tonnes from Telangana, 4.09 lakh tonnes from Uttarakhand and 4.81 lakh tonnes from the mandis of Uttar Pradesh. In other states, 21,826 tonnes of paddy has been purchased from Andhra Pradesh, 28,669 tonnes from Bihar, 8,263 tonnes from Gujarat, 20,795 tonnes from Himachal Pradesh and 16,948 tonnes from Jammu and Kashmir, besides 20,074 tonnes of paddy has been purchased from Kerala at support price. The central government has fixed the minimum support price, MSP, of common grade paddy at Rs 2,183 and MSP of common grade paddy at Rs 2,203 per quintal for the Kharif marketing season 2023-24.
