Dense fog and cold wave conditions prevailing over North India- For next 2 days, Red Alert issued over Punjab & Haryana and Orange alert issued over Delhi-NCR
The ongoing western disturbance is not much strong hence chances of light rain/ snowfall is possible over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand etc for next 2 days. A cyclonic circulation is present around Bangladesh, due to which light rains are possible over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal, South Jharkhand, Sout East Madhya Pradesh in coming 2-3 days. Farmers are advised to withhold application of irrigation as chances of rains have been predicted in upcoming days. Postpone the spraying activities for next 4-5 days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India on January 17-18. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim on January 17. Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to prevail in coming 3-4 days over many parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Additionally, cold day conditions are very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh for next 2-3 days. If the temperature decreases further, droplets of dew will freeze and there may be chances of frost attack in standing crops of Hisar, Sirsa of Haryana and Churu, Sikar, Alwar of Rajasthan. Farmers are advised to apply irrigation at regular intervals to prevent their crops from frost damage. Cold weather will prevail in Morning and Night time over North India. Minimum Temperature at day time may increase by 1-2 degree Celsius.
