Cotton rises for the second day in Gujarat and North India due to increase in purchases from mills

Due to continued demand from spinning mills, cotton prices rose for the second consecutive day on Thursday in Gujarat as well as in the states of North India. In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the price of 29 Shankar-6 variety cotton increased by Rs 250 to Rs 61,000 to Rs 61,500 per candy, one candy-356 kg. In Punjab, spot delivery prices of cotton rose by Rs 50 to Rs 6050 to Rs 6100 per maund. In Haryana, the price of cotton for spot delivery increased by 75% from Rs 5975 to Rs 6075 per maund. In Upper Rajasthan, cotton spot delivery prices increased by 25% from Rs 5700 to Rs 6225 per maund. In Khairthal line, cotton prices increased from Rs 59,500 to Rs 59,700 per candy, one candy being 356 kg. The arrival of cotton in the mandis across the country was 88,200 bales, one bale being 170 kg. There was a mixed trend in cotton prices this evening on domestic futures market MCX as well as NCDX. Cotton prices rose in the evening session in electronic trading on ICE. Due to increase in demand from spinning mills, cotton prices increased for the second day in Gujarat as well as in the states of North India. According to traders, cotton prices have recently increased in the world market, due to which there will be an increase in cotton export deals from the domestic market. Anyway, Indian cotton is the cheapest in the world market. Due to the consumption season, the local demand for yarn will increase further in the coming days, while the outstanding stock of cotton with small spinning mills across the country is less. There has been a decrease in the daily arrivals of cotton in the producer markets, and the arrivals will decrease further in the coming days. Therefore, cotton prices in the spot market are expected to improve further. Although CCI is continuously selling cotton in the producing states, but the selling prices of CCI are high, due to which its prices will increase in the spot market. According to traders, so far in the current crop season 2023-24, which started from October 1, 2023, 219.39 lakh bales of cotton, one bale of which is 170 kg, have arrived in the markets across the country. Cotton Association of India, CAI has maintained its cotton production estimate during the crop season 2023-24 at the earlier level of 294.10 lakh. It is known that during the crop season 2022-23 across the country 318.90 Lakhs of bales of cotton were produced. According to the second advance estimate of the Union Agriculture Ministry, cotton production in the country during the crop season 2023-24 is estimated to be 323.11 lakh bales, one bale - 170 kg.
