According to the data of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, till August 12, Kharif crops have been sown in 979.89 lakh hectares, which is 1.39 percent more than the sowing done in 966.40 lakh hectares in the same period last year. The area of ​​paddy, the biggest crop of the Kharif season, has been recorded at 331.78 lakh hectares so far, which is 4.28 percent more than the area of ​​318.16 lakh hectares in the same period last year. This year, cotton sowing has decreased by 8.86 percent from 121.24 lakh hectares last year to 110.49 lakh hectares. Sowing of pulses In the current Kharif season, till August 12, the area under pulses crops was recorded at 117.43 lakh hectares, which is 6.67 percent more than the area of ​​110.08 lakh hectares in the same period last year. Sowing of pigeon pea has increased by 15.79 percent from 38.49 lakh hectares last year to 44.57 lakh hectares and moong has increased from 29.89 lakh hectares to 32.78 lakh hectares, while sowing of urad has decreased from 28.83 lakh hectares last year to 27.76 lakh hectares. Area of ​​oilseed crops In the current Kharif season, oilseed crops have been sown in 183.69 lakh hectares so far, which is about one percent more than the oilseed crops sown in 182.17 lakh hectares during the same period last year. During this period, the area of ​​soybean, the biggest oilseed crop of this season, was recorded at 124.69 lakh hectares, in the same period last year this figure was 122.89 lakh hectares. In this season, the area of ​​groundnut increased by 8.34 percent from 41.92 lakh hectares last year to 45.42 lakh hectares. The area of ​​sesame decreased from 11.14 lakh hectares last year to 10.14 lakh hectares. Sowing of coarse grains According to government data, till August 12, coarse grains have been sown in 173.13 lakh hectares, which is one percent more than the sowing done in 171.36 lakh hectares during the same period last year. Among coarse cereals, the area under maize increased by 7.57 percent to 85.17 lakh hectares. However, this year, the sowing of millet, the second largest coarse cereal crop after maize, decreased by about 4.5 percent to 65.69 lakh hectares.
